Yoga is the physical, mental or spiritual discipline and it also has many different types. Yoga was originated in Ancient India. Practicing yoga not only tone your body and refresh the mind, but it also improves your immune system, helps to lower your stress level and provides many other health benefits. Yoga has been there for more than 5,000 years and we are still fine tuning the practice. Today aside from having a yoga studio around every corner, its has also many types. Even though all types of yoga are based on the same poses but each style has a particular focus.

Yoga and its different types being practiced today, it may be difficult for you to find out which style is beneficial for your mind and body the most. It is very important for you to find out which type of yoga will meet your demands, so here are some common yoga styles practiced everywhere.

Hatha:

Hatha was originated in 15th century. This type of yoga is gentle, low paced and focused on meditation and breathing. This yoga relieves stress, improve breathing and also provide physical exercise. This type of yoga is very good for the beginners and for those who wants to learn the basics of yoga.

Karma:

Word or the actions and result of that action is karma. Karma yoga strives to do good and avoid the evil spirits. It is actually, carrying out actions with divine union as it is based on dedication of all good deeds of God and serving selflessly without any avarice for riches or rewards.

Vinyasa:

Much like Hatha, Vinyasa covers basic poses and breath synchronized movement. This variety of Hatha yoga emphasizes on sun salutation which is a series of 12 poses where movement is matched to breath. This yoga helps to improve flexibility and strength, reduces risk of heart diseases, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes and tones the abdominal muscles.

Bikram:

Bikram is typically a series of 26 poses that allows for a loosening of tight muscles and sweating. It is also known as hot yoga and is practiced in a 95 to 100 degree room. The purpose of this yoga is to flush out the toxins and deeply stretch the muscles. This yoga helps to speed up recovery from any injury, cleans body and enhances flexibility.

Ashtanga:

This yoga metaphorically focuses on eight limbs. It is considered to be the form of power yoga. It is fast paced and intense with push ups and lungs. The purpose of this yoga is to improve spiritual self of one person. This yoga relieves stress, helps with weight loss and improves coordination.

Iyengar:

Iyengar covers all the eight aspects of Ashtanga yoga and focuses o n bodily alignment. Different props like blankets, blocks andd straps are used to assist in strengthening the body. Standing poses are emphasized and are often held for long periods of time. Purpose of this yoga is to strengthen and bring body into alignment. This yoga improves balance, speeds up recovery from injury and also build up body strength.
