Valentine’s Day is celebrated on every 14th of February. It is the festival of romance and love and people celebrate it by giving letters, cards, flowers and other gifts to their partners or loved ones. Many spend quality time with each other, have dinner or lunch together. Common symbols which are used for Valentine’s Day are red roses, Cupid and hearts. Valentine’s Day is also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or Feast of Saint Valentine. Valentine’s Day is celebrated all around the world. In many parts of the world there is a holiday on this day to enjoy this day fully, while in others it remains the usual working day. Valentine’s Day is mostly celebrated in the West.

St. Valentine’s Day was started as a liturgical celebration of old age Christian saints named Valentinus. The martyrology which is most famous and is associated with Saint Valentine is that he was punished and imprisoned because he used to perform wedding of those soldiers who were not allowed to marry. He was said to have healed daughter of his jailer Asterius, during his imprisonment. Before his execution, he wrote” from your Valentine” as a farewell to her, according to legendary account. Saint Valentine’s Day is an official feast day, today in Lutheran Church and Anglican Communion.
According to Catholic Encyclopedia, there were at least three Christian saints in early times by the name of Valentine. One was the priest in Rome, Second was bishop in Terni and third was Stain Valentine. Astonishingly all these three Valentines were said to have been martyred on 14 February. 14 February become associated with romantic love in England in the Middle Ages. This tradition may followed on from Pagan fertility festivals that were used to held all over Europe as the Winter came to an end. In old time and according to traditions, on 14 February lovers exchanged hand written letters or notes.
In the mid of nineteenth century commercial cards become available for this purpose. Valentine’s Day is a best time for the couples and loved ones to make their relation more strong. On this day many people celebrate their love with their partners by doing different things like sending cards or letters, giving flowers or gifts and arranging romantic night and meals in restaurants. The main colors of Valentine’s Day are white, pink and red. These colors are usually used in the cards and decorations of Valentines Day and also in clothes, stuffed animals etc.
Red color of Valentine’s Day is associated with the color of human heart. It symbolizes feelings and warmth. White color is the symbol of purity. In some time white symbolizes faith and it means faith of love that two people have for each other. Pink color is the combination of red and white and it symbolizes as innocents.
